Artist Statement
My artistic practice centers around the exploration of light and dark through the medium of woodcut printmaking. Woodcut's tactile nature and its ability to create striking contrasts between light and shadow align perfectly with my desire to evoke emotion and contemplation through visual imagery.
I am drawn to the stark beauty of black and white, and the way it can simplify complex scenes and highlight essential elements. By carefully considering the placement of light and dark, I aim to create compositions that are both visually arresting and emotionally resonant. I believe that the interplay of light and dark can evoke a wide range of emotions, from joy and hope to sorrow and despair.
In my prints, I often explore themes of nature, memory, and the human condition. Through the use of light and dark, I seek to convey the beauty, fragility, and complexity of the world around us. I am particularly interested in the way that light can reveal hidden depths and shadows, and how darkness can create a sense of mystery and intrigue.
My goal is to create woodcut prints that are not only visually appealing but also thought-provoking. I hope that my work will inspire viewers to reflect on their own experiences and to find meaning in the interplay of light and dark.
